Tickets to Katy Perry’s upcoming New Zealand show sold out in just 30 minutes this morning, forcing the chart-topping hitmaker to announce a second show.

Perry, who recently wed British comedian Russell Brand in India, will now perform two dates at Auckland’s Vector Arena, on May 7 and May 8.

The pop star is known for her tight-fitting outfits and controversial hits like I Kissed A Girl. She is touring on the back of her recently-released album Teenage Dream.

“I am ecstatic to be able to see the glittering faces and also to go to New Zealand for the first time,” Perry said.

“I love going somewhere new because there’s a special feeling in the air. It’s like when you meet someone you love for the first time.”

Perry promised Kiwi fans that her performance will be an extravaganza.

“I want it to be sensory overload. I’m figuring out the nuances, because I have these wild ideas, but they’re not really traditional concert things,” she told the Sunday Star-Times.

Tickets for the second show are on sale now.

‘She looks like a pinup, but she’s got … a lot to say,’ Dave Meyers tells MTV News.

When Dave Meyers sat down to write his treatment for Katy Perry’s “Firework” video, he says he wanted to “play with [her] image a bit … sort of demystify the candy-colored pop icon that she’s become.”

So you can imagine his disappointment when, as soon as he finished his first draft, the director caught the premiere of Perry’s “Teenage Dream” clip, which stripped KP of her “California Gurls” candy coating and, in the process, sent him back to the drawing board.

“I had written the treatment already with the idea of deconstructing her a little bit, and then ‘Teenage Dream’ came out and deconstructed her all the way,” Meyers said, laughing. “So I had to switch gears a little bit. But really, it was easy, because I connected with the song. I felt ‘Firework’ was very personal, and I was very drawn to that. … We wanted to articulate the meaning of that song: what it means to be an underdog and have the courage, if you’re on the outskirts of society, to be your own person.”

Katy Perry has released a promo pic’ for her new perfume that features her laying on the floor in a PVC cat outfit.

Her fragrance is called Purr, and she’s taken that title literally when thinking of ways to show off the scent.

The singer looks fierce next to a giant ball of wool wearing a pink and blue catsuit which includes a tail and ears. She tops it all off by wearing huge black heels on her feet.

It’s only the latest feline outfit worn by the Teenage Dream star, just yesterday a Cosmo cover was released showing Katy in a leopard-print leotard.

Her fiancée Russell Brand meanwhile has been busy joking that the pair might release a sex tape. Asked if they’ll ever work together the Brit told People mag: “We’ll do a sex tape! Give them what they want!”

He continued: “She’s very good at what she does, and I feel it’s very distinct from what I do. It takes up enough of my time to be in love with her. Negotiating in films is very, very hard.”

In other words, don’t expect it to happen anytime soon. “She’s very good at what she does, and I feel it’s very distinct from what I do,” Brand says.

He adds: “It takes up enough of my time to be in love with her. Negotiating in films is very, very hard. Imagine trying to direct someone you really love – it would be a [expletive] nightmare.”

Speaking at a New York Times event about his autobiographical sequel, Booky Wook 2: This Time It’s Personal, the comedian and actor talked poignantly at times about his love for the Californian pop singer.

The Wizards of Waverly Place actress loves the singer’s music so much, that she even recorded one of her songs.

“I love Katy Perry! She gave me a song for my second album,” says Selena about her new record A Year Without Rain.

“It’s called Rock God,” the 18-year-old added, before revealing what the track is about: “It’s about falling in love with a guy who is a rock star.”

Selena was so happy to be given the song that she thanked the 25-year-old California Gurls star in the booklet of the CD. “So in my album thank yous, I wrote Katy Perry you are my Rock God.”

Bride-to-be Katy Perry woke up in Vegas on Sunday — after a wild, wild night out!

Set to wed British comic Russell Brand this fall, Perry, 25, hit Sin City Saturday night with best friend Rihanna and 25 other guys and gals for an epic bachelorette party.

Before heading out for the night, Perry jokingly Tweeted about her upcoming night of Las Vegas debauchery: “Signing up for a liver transplant now.” She then quoted 9-year-old Willow Smith’s club banger: “I whip my hair back ‘n forth.”

The festivities began when Perry, Rihanna and the rest of the revelers arrived at the MGM Grand in a stretch Hummer convertible. As the limo pulled up, Perry (wearing a crown!) and Rihanna bopped to blasting music.

The gal pals were arm in arm as they entered the back-door entrance of the resort to check out an early performance of KA by Cirque du Soleil.

After the show, the famous singers visited with the Cirque du Soleil cast backstage — playing with their out-of-this-world costumes and complimenting the performers’ amazing, freaky show.

The party continued on into the night as the crew boarded the stretch Hummer — headed for a top-secret location.

Perry and Get Him to the Greek’s Brand, 35, got engaged over the New Year while on holiday in Jaipur, India. The “California Gurls” singer has “never connected with anybody like this,” a pal told Us.

Perry’s bachelorette weekend admittedly got off to a rough start: she and Brand missed their Friday flight out of LAX after he reportedly got into a scuffle with a photographer. Brand was placed under citizen’s arrest and charged with a misdemeanor of simple battery. His was released on $20,000 bail. Perry defended Brand after the brouhaha:

“If you cross the line & try an put a lens up my dress, my fiancé will do his job & protect me.”

“I was so excited to see deadmau5 onstage at the VMAs,” Katy Perry gushed to MTV News at her former high school in Santa Barbara, California, on Tuesday. “He’s the coolest. It’s like we are living in the future. It’s very ‘Blade Runner.’ I want Deadmau5 to come hang out with me, but still wear that head.”

But while last Sunday may have been Perry’s first opportunity to catch Joel Zimmerman (deadmau5′s born name) performing for the first time, she seems well aware of dance music’s current favor in pop music. Perry went on to explain why she chose to have four electronic dance mixes on her latest effort.

“I love really good remixes, and I think they did a fantastic job with mine,” Perry said. “I think you need a little bit extra when you’re up in the club sometimes. And they definitely gave me that little bit extra.

“Kaskade’s work was fantastic!” she added. “That’s why I put out the song with the remix.”
