Rebecca Black had a slightly shaky start when she was pushed into the limelight after her music video “Friday” went viral following a referral from comedian Daniel Tosh, but she’s since adjusted to her new fame with some help from Katy Perry.
Katy cast Rebecca for her video “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” (posted above), seeing enough potential in the 14-year-old singer to give her a significant role.
“It started off as just a little cameo,” Rebecca recounted to ET. “And then it started growing, as we started talking more, into this big co-starring role.”
Rebecca admitted that she thought her mother was joking when she first told her that Katy asked to put the young crooner in a music video.
“I met [Katy] on the set,” Rebecca said with a laugh. “Our [first] meeting was pretty funny because I kind of met Kathy Beth Terry and Katy at the same time.”
Rebecca has done a lot of growing up since her video debuted February 10, no longer allowing herself to be affected by negative comments posted by anonymous bloggers. Part of her confidence may stem from some advice Katy gave her: “Never listen to people that tell you to stop doing what you love.”
“Now I just forget about them all because as I figured out that these are creepy people sitting behind their computers, hating on a little teenager,” Rebecca said, going on to explain that most of the negative comments referred to the lyrics which were penned by someone else.

Katy Perry gave Jessie J career counselling when they recently met.
‘Price Tag’ singer Jessie met the US star in Australia last week, where she asked her how best to deal with her sudden rise to fame.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “It’s nice to meet someone that has been through what I’m going through. In the bad times, you need someone to give you a hug.
“She told me to make sure I keep people I love around me. I didn’t mean to get that serious, I was only meeting her for a minute and I was like, ‘Can I have a counselling session please?’
“She’s super cool, very funny and almost looks unreal. She’s perfect.”

|Newman wanted GaGa, Perry for Oscars|

Oscar-winning singer-songwriter Randy Newman has said that he wanted Lady GaGa and Katy Perry to perform a song from Toy Story 3.
Speaking to New York Magazine, Newman, who scored a 12th Oscar nomination this year for the track ‘We Belong Together’ from the Pixar sequel, said that he originally thought of asking either of the pair to sing the song as a duet with John Mayer.
“I actually wrote it thinking it would be a duet. Maybe get John Mayer and Lady GaGa, or I don’t know, Katy Perry? But Pixar thought not,” he explained.
Newman, who ended up recording the piece himself, also revealed that he is to perform it at this year’s Oscars. However, he added that he wanted someone “really inappropriate” like GaGa or Perry to sing the song instead.
He said: “I tried to get them to hire someone really inappropriate to perform it for me. Someone who’s sort of good, like Katy Perry or Lady GaGa, who’s very good. And I think they tried, except one’s in London and one’s in Chicago. It would have been funny.”

Don’t let Katy Perry and Russell Brand fool you — despite being one of Hollywood’s hottest celeb couples at the moment, their marriage couldn’t be more normal.
That’s according to Brand, who appeared on England’s “Loose Women” (a talk show similar to “The View”) to discuss his relationship with the “California Gurls” singer, whom he tied the knot with in India last month.
Despite the elaborate, multiple-day ceremony, which culminated in a tiger sanctuary, Brand claims their relationship is surprisingly commonplace.
“It’s just a normal marriage,” Brand insisted. “The other day, I put a shirt on and she went … ‘You’re wearing that shirt, are you?’”

It’s all out war in the wardrobe department as Rihanna takes on Lady Gaga and Katy Perry for the most jaw-dropping clobber.
In an exclusive chat with Rihanna, the US chart-topper revealed just how serious it is.
She said: “My worst nightmare would be a clash on the red carpet – so we all text each other before to make sure.”
Just imagine turning up in identical raw meat frocks… Speaking at the launch of her new album, Loud – out in November – Riri confided: “We’re all kind of fearless with fashion. So Katy and I speak all the time about what we’re going to wear. And Gaga.
“One time we were going to the Met Ball, and Katy phoned me to check. We were like Oh My God, we were both going in this dress by Dolce and Gabbana with Marilyn Monroe’s face all over it.
“She was like, ‘You can’t. I’ve had my nails done in mink and it matches the dress. I thought, seeing as she’d gone to all that effort, I’d let her wear it.”
That’s what mates are for…
