Katy Perry posts back-to-back No. 1s on the Billboard Hot 100, as “Teenage Dream” is set to top the chart when it’s released in full tomorrow morning (Sept. 9).
The last female artist to post successive No. 1 singles on the chart was Lady Gaga, who took her first two entries, “Just Dance” and “Poker Face,” to the summit in the first half of 2009.
Perry spent six weeks at No. 1 with her last radio single “California Gurls” earlier this summer, accumulating enough time in the upper reaches of the chart to lead the Summer Songs tally for most of the season. The final ranking of Top Summer Songs will also be announced tomorrow. On this week’s Hot 100, “California Gurls” dips 7-10.
“Teenage Dream” makes its surge to No. 1 thanks in part to a copping a second straight Airplay Gainer award, topping 100 million listener impressions for the first time with a 19% audience gain (7-5 on Radio Songs), according to Nielsen BDS. The track holds at No. 1 for a second week on Digital Songs with 221,000 (down 15%), according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Perry supplants Eminem, who was also enjoying a back-to-back No. 1 run on the Hot 100. “Love the Way You Lie,” featuring Rihanna, led for the past seven weeks (1-2), while his last single “Not Afraid” topped the chart for a week in May.

Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream has arrived at the top of the UK album charts.
The ‘California Gurls’ singer’s sophomore effort is a marked improvement on her first release One Of The Boys, which failed to crack the Top 10 upon its release in 2008.
Its success pushes Eminem’s Recovery down to the runner-up position for only the third time in its 11 weeks of release, one spot ahead of Biffy Clyro’s Only Revolutions, which climbs 24 places to return to the top five.
Elsewhere in the Top 10, two more albums – The Pretty Reckless with Light Me Up and Disturbed’s Asylum – make their debuts, landing at six and seven respectively.
Meanwhile, Lissie’s Catch A Tiger re-enters the top 40 after climbing a massive 30 places to 12, while Iron Maiden’s The Final Frontier goes the opposite way, plummeting 15 places from three to 18, one spot behind a new entry from Everything Everything, entitled Man Alive.

Katy Perry does double duty at No. 1 this week on both the Billboard 200 albums chart and the Digital Songs tally thanks to the arrival of her “Teenage Dream” album.
Her second Capitol effort starts atop the Billboard 200 with 192,000 according to Nielsen SoundScan — marking her best sales week and a new chart high. She’s the first solo woman to reign at No. 1 since January, when Ke$ha‘s “Animal” spent one week atop the list.
Over on the Digital Songs chart, “Teenage Dream’s” title track moves up one spot to spend its first frame at No. 1 with 259,000 (up 24%).

Eminem’s “Recovery” will likely relinquish the No. 1 position on the Billboard 200 albums chart next week — after a total of seven weeks atop the list — to Katy Perry’s new “Teenage Dream.” Released Tuesday (Aug. 24), industry prognosticators suggest that Perry’s set will likely sell in the range of 170,000 to 200,000 by week’s end on Sunday, August 29.
Perry’s last album, 2008′s “One of the Boys,” debuted and peaked at No. 9 in July of that year with 47,000 sold in its premiere week according to Nielsen SoundScan. Its best sales frame came over Christmas week of 2008 when it shifted 63,000 — but at a lower rung on the tally.
Beleaguered former “American Idol” champ Fantasia is looking for a big week too. Her third set, “Back To Me,” is on track for a record-high No. 2 debut with a number somewhere in the range of 120,000 to 140,000. Her last effort, 2006′s “Fantasia,” bowed at No. 19 with 133,000 over the busy Christmas shopping week.
Perry’s “Dream” has already launched a pair of top five hit singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart as its “California Gurls” was lodged at No. 1 for six weeks while the title track zips from No. 5 to No. 3 this week. She also issued three more pre-album-release singles with “Not Like the Movies,” “Circle the Drain” and “E.T.” Combined, the five songs have moved 4.5 million downloads in the U.S. according to SoundScan. Three of them reside on the Digital Songs chart this week as Nos. 2, 12 and 19.

The summer may be nearing an end, but Katy Perry’s still in her Daisy Dukes and bikini top, straddling the chart universe.
That’s the news from one-day sales reports sent to us by those retailers who haven’t permanently deleted us from their e-mail base.
Coming on the heels of two straight smash singles, including “California Gurls” and the title track, Perry’s sophomore Capitol Records album, Teenage Dream, finds her in the clouds, set to debut at #1 with a total of around 200k. And while the first-week sales are slightly below expectations, if the steady stream of hit singles keep coming, it could eventually approach a similar performer, Black Eyed Peas’ E.N.D., which is up to 2.7m and still selling 12-15k a week more than a year after its release.
And while Perry’s chart-topping debut would suggest sex trumps a suicide attempt, Fantasia’s J/RMG album Back to Me seemed to generate sales from media interest in her overdose, with first-week estimates of 120-130k, making her a solid #2. (…)

HUGE Congrats to Katy Perry! While Eminem joins an exclusive boys club of chart achievers, Katy similarly earns an honor previously attained by just nine solo female artists.
As previously reported, Perry becomes the 10th woman to concurrently place two titles in the Hot 100′s top five as a lead act. Her “Teenage Dream” jumps 9-5, while her former six-week No. 1, “California Gurls,” rebounds 4-3.
Here is a recap of the 10 female soloists to double up simultaneously in the Hot 100′s top five. Donna Summer, Mariah Carey and Beyonce are the only women to do so with two different sets of songs…
